THE TWO CONTINENTS OF WARLANDS
A world of elven forests, dragon guarded mountains, and frightful wilderness stretching across the face of the realm is now endangered by the threat of destructive civilizations whose technology may cause cataclysmic damage. Growing cities are expanding and colonizing lands of myth and legend. The wild inhabitants are trying to defend their homes from the intruding forces of poachers and pioneers.
It was nearly five hundred years ago when the Dark Army of Kadmus breached the shores of Sylvernas, settling and populating ancient cities, colonizing the northern realm. Wizards tapping the wild magics, knights clad in armor, monster hunters claiming the lives of legendary creatures, they became one of the people - and began to fight for the land that was not originally theirs.
The inhabitants of Sylvernas weren't taken by surprise when their shores were currently breached yet again. They had hoped, however, to keep the intruders at bay. When their sacred city of Bel Aman'dur was captured, and their dragons defeated in battle, they knew their homes were no longer safe. The Fey, elves, and dwarves have sought refuge deep within their sheltered woodland and mountain realms. The dragons, missing from sight for near five hundred years, are barely more than a myth in the west - but they have come to rule the lawless east...
Dark and desolate, the lands of Kadmus live under the tyrannous rule of a dreaded presence known as "The Dark One", supported fully by the Dark Empress - a merciless and powerful magic wielder whose face is always shrouded in a black veil. Her minion grow and gather with each passing day, spreading fear across the realm. Very few nations have avoided being conquered, but how long can they hold out against such an ominous and dangerous threat?
In the north west, the Council of the Inquisition in Hembria has taken over the free state - turning their women into slaves and sacrificing all magic users to strengthen their allegiance with the Dark Empress. They have run out of "fiends" within their own lands, and have gathered support from the Dark Army - enough so that they have waged war against Lyseria, Vihera, and even their northern neighbors of Havenland in Sylvernas.
The Laerian elven race has been all but annihilated, and the others have locked their boarders against outsiders by creating vast, heavily guarded walls. The dwarves have succumbed to the Dark Army - using their forges to supply the Empress' soldiers with arms and armor. Some still fight, but the battle has become futile. Dragons war against one another in a stand-still battle that can only lead to their utter demise.
Spires rise up where magical wells have been discovered. These obsidian obelisks and temples drain away the very life from the lands. Deadly, consuming fogs have begun to roll through the lands where the Dark One's magic-depleting taint has spread - turning animals into blackened, twisted creatures called 'Tainted Ones' that feast on living flesh in the darkest of places.
